February 16, 2012 marked one year from the first day of my project. I had started it with the intention of using it as a weight loss tool and though it helped in some ways, it was completely useless in others. I began to just feel like it’s OK to eat what I do as long as I post it, which wasn’t the intention.
I did however lose some weight, but it was a combination of thinking twice about eating as much as I normally would (shocking I know) and working out more. I got a trainer and started playing tennis.
Once I started seeing results from the increased activity, I started to dread posting my food and drink intake, but committed to at least making it a full year. Unfortunately, on January 31st, 2012 my father suffered a heart attack that resulted in a triple bypass surgery on Tuesday, February 7th, 2012 – I stopped the blog on the 5th of February, 11 days short of one year. This experience really opened my eyes in a way that these hundreds of pictures couldn’t do. Since then I have already begun a much healthier diet and feel great about it.
I thank all of my friends, family, coworkers, clients and business associates for their patience, intrigue and support of pausing between conversations and meetings to take pictures. If for nothing else than showing that you supported me in whatever wacky project I was doing. I do want to continue doing a blog but haven’t quite figured out what it will be about just yet. I did an official weigh-in this morning and my total weight loss so far is 7 lbs! Can you believe it with everything I’ve been eating? I really think this is more of a portion control thing than anything else - before, I would have eaten a lot more and 2nds, 3rds of meals.
Another thing that this blog has helped me control is the random “grazing” as @petersonlindsay likes to call it - eating for the sake of eating because something is right in front of me. I haven’t done that because of the inconvenience of having to post it.
An observation that many friends have brought to my attention is how much I eat out! I never really thought of it but it’s true, there are many days where all of my meals are not from home - this has to stop not only because of the nutritional factor but the $! Today/tomorrow can’t count because I have work lunch and dinner plans but I will get on it ASAP!
